It All Started With A Driven Young Entrepreneur
It all started 27 years ago with a young entrepreneur, Spencer Simcik, who was always a self-motivated and ambitious child. During his youth he was always dreaming and working hard in in hopes of eventually owning his own business. Spencer started working for a small furniture store as a delivery person and soon worked his way up to head of customer service. While working at the furniture store Spencer saved his money and signed a retail lease for his first mattress store. Spencer was one of the first pioneers in California to specialize in mattresses exclusively; at that time mattresses were purchased primarily at department stores and furniture stores. Spencer figured if he could specialize in a niche product, he may not do a high volume, but in return would build a lifelong clientele and following, which is precisely what he has done. With the success of his first store and specialty niche, it eventually led to Spencer opening a chain of successful mattress stores.
Putting People First And Business Second
Over the years Spencer noticed consumers purchased mattresses based on price and comfort but there was rarely a consideration regarding the benefits of health through proper sleep. Spencer felt that it was imperative to educate his customers about the many health benefits of proper sleep. You see Spencer has always put people first and business second. For this reason he has been on a lengthy quest to design, create, and manufacture the ultimate mattresses, foundations, toppers, and pillows. His passion and objective has been to provide his customers with the healthiest sleep experience possible.
Extensively Trained In Sweden
Due to Spencer’s passion to provide his customers with the ultimate therapeutic sleep experience, he decided to go to Sweden to be extensively trained in the manufacturing side of the business. He calls Sweden “the sleep capital of the world” and says they are far more advanced in sleep studies. During his studies, he found there are three reasons most likely to obstruct sleep.
1st. was proper spinal alignment, which has to do with the type of base core the mattress is consisted of. If the core of the mattress is not engineered correctly it could adversely affect the correct sleep position. Churchill & Smith products are engineered as to provide the proper support for the spine, body, neck, and head.
2nd. was the use and construction of the internal filling materials. The purpose of the filling materials is to alleviate uncomfortable pressure points and provide a full night’s sleep. Pressure on muscles and joints can cause constricted blood flow and lack circulation, which in turn can cause the heart rate to increase. The sooner we can get to what is called REM sleep, the better. This is when our growth hormones and immune system rebuilds. Churchill & Smith products are handmade with each and every product’s internal filling components being carefully measured as to reduce pressure points so that the customer gets the best night’s sleep possible.
3rd. was the type of materials used is extremely important. The majority of mattress manufacturers use synthetics like polyurethane foams and petroleum based products. The problem with these materials is that they retain body heat which can cause night sweating and sleep disturbance. In addition, visco-elastic foam also known as memory foam, can off-gas and when pressure is applied has a slower compression and recovery time, thus not providing as much support as then all natural latex for example.
Spencer has learned that when natural materials are used such as all natural latex, wool, kapok, and cotton that a better sleep experience will be achieved. Natural materials facilitate fresh air flow and thus heat and moisture is wisped through and away, maintaining your body core temperature. Keeping your body temperature normal and regulated you are less apt to toss and turn and the end result is a full night’s sleep. Churchill & Smith products are made with all natural materials and do not use toxic glues, polyurethane foams, plastics, or synthetics.
